Open to: Grade 9
Prerequisite:  Must have passed accelerated biology placement test  and have      passed or be taking at least Algebra 1
                     B in a previous science course
Note:  Additional lab periods may be scheduled depending upon teacher availability
 
The course centers around cellular and molecular biology with an emphasis on cell structure and function. Other topics include photosynthesis, cellular respiration, genetics and DNA. 
 
This course is designed for the advanced academic student with intentions of entering a four year college program in the science field.  Students should demonstrate a high degree of motivation and ability as the demands will be challenging.
 
Anatomy

Meets:  5 days/wk
Open to: Grades 11 and 12
Prerequisite:  B or better in Academic Biology
 
This is an introductory course designed to help students who intend on taking biology/anatomy in college.  This course includes a study of the basic fundamentals of anatomy and physiology, such as the names and location of structures and their relationship to the functioning of the organs.  Cells, tissues, organs and systems are of major consideration.  Also covered are various diseases and disorders of the body.  Laboratory work such as various dissections will be used to reinforce concepts.  This course is highly recommended for those students intending to study medicine, nursing, altheltic training, physical therapy, denistry and chiropractic.
